“No, think about uh… food”

Being in love is a great thing. But it can also be a bad thing. Balance is the key to happiness; it’s the key to success.

There was once a guy and his name was Neru.  Neru had a group of good friends who were just as crazy as him. One of them was called Seki; he was the one that Neru went to when he needed advise. Seki was a special guy, he was like the Joker. He laughed but turned serious out of nowhere. He was less scary though. One day his Joker friend asked him a question.

“Have you ever been in love?”

Neru thought the question was weird, he had a lot of girlfriends in the past and Seki knew all of them.

“I mean real love as in she is the only one you care about, she is the only one you can think about.”

Again Neru didn’t answer; he just looked at his friend and thought about his question.

“I don’t know what I should do… maybe I’m obsessed so don’t judge me but all I can think about is her.  Every word she said, every tear she shed. Every day I wake up with her in my mind. She smiles and says ‘good morning’. I think of everything about her. Her faults come to my mind but I forget them when I realize they don’t matter. Then I try to stop… I say to myself: “No…think about uh… food.” So I imagine lasagna and chocolate but even those disappear.”

Seki stopped talking and looked at Neru who had a big smile on his face.

"Why are you smiling?”

Neru smiled again and he finally answered.

“You’re asking me question but you already know the answers. I haven’t been in love like you are, I wish I was. I don’t know the girl who you are talking about because you don’t talk much about girls in general but she must mean a lot to you if lasagna is second to her.”

“She means the world to me.”, Seki said, his face reddened as he spoke those words.

“Does she think the same of you?”, Neru asked not sure if that was the right thing to do.

Sekis face expression changed, it was concerned. As he was looking at the ground he said: “I don’t know, she says all these things but she says a lot. I don’t know what to believe.”

Neru stepped closer to Seki and hit his head slightly. ‘You just have to confirm right? That’s easy.”

“Haaai!”, a sudden voice called out.

Seki looked up and saw her; he stiffened and then locked eyes with Neru who immediately knew what was going on.  Neru waved at the girl so she would come over. Seki was about to leave when Neru grabbed his arm to make him stay.

“Now is not the time to be shy, if she really means that much to you than you should take the risk.”, he whispered before he walked off.

The girl came closer and stopped before Seki.

“I finally found you, I was looking for you all day long.”

A strange alien noise came from her belly as she put her arms around herself as to stop the sound.

“Sorry, I was thinking about you all day so I haven’t eaten.”, the girl said slightly embarrassed.

Seki smiled and then hugged her. “I guess we both are the same.”, he whispered and then kissed her lips.

Neru who was watching from a distance giggled. He realized this was fun and wondered when it would be his turn to fall in love, maybe he would lose weight.
